Publishers' sites are not always as good as they should be but Bloomsbury's is an exception. The 'Writer's Area' gives a 'Guide for Unpublished Writers' – eg 'dos and don'ts of approaching a publisher', 'Submitting material' etc The letter from an unpublished author is good fun and the literary agent Simon Trewin provides helpful tips in his 'Advice from a Literary Agent' column', despite a few plugs too many for his agency. (NB The comment never to pay anyone to help publish you is
out of date, as the Society of Authors website recognises. It all depends on the type of deal.) – Don Shaw did and not only made a profit from his self-published book but sold on massmarket rights to Random House). There is also a ‘Research Centre' which offers a free online research service but appears to be restricted to Bloomsbury's books.

trade weekly – provides a mixture of daily news and comment on all aspects of publishing.
PUBLISHING NEWS
The publishing industry's Mail to the Bookseller' s Times, this site's aim is to give a gossipy fix on ‘the book trade as it happens'. The site's great strength are its links – booksellers and trade associations as well as publishers.
WRITERS' NEWS
This is the site of the UK's two main monthly writing magazines, Writers' News and Writing Magazine. Good on competitions, news and so on.
